What Happened, Miss Simone? is a 2015 documentary directed by Liz Garbus that showcases the life and career of iconic singer, songwriter, and civil rights activist, Nina Simone. 

The documentary focuses on Nina’s personal and professional struggles that includes her battles with mental health, racial injustice, and the challenges of being a Black woman in the music industry. It highlights her rise to fame as a classical pianist and jazz singer, as well as her decision to use her platform to advocate for civil rights and the challenges she faced as a Black woman in the music industry. 

Through a mix of archival footage, interviews, and her powerful music,  the documentary reveals both the brilliance and the inner turmoil of Nina’s life.
