A Thousand Blows

A Thousand Blows is a new British historical drama series created by Steven Knight which is best known for his creation of the ‘Peaky Blinders’. The first season premiered on Friday 21st February 2025, on Disney+ internationally and in the UK.

Based on true events  A Thousand Blows is set in the gritty, lawless streets of East London in the Victorian Era of the 1880’s. The drama series centers on the intense conflicts between the notorious Forty Elephants, an all female crime committee, and the brutal world of illegal bare knuckle boxing. Under the leadership of the sharp and formidable Mary Carr who is played by Erin Doherty, the Forty Elephants dominate the London underworld with their network of criminals. As the story develops, the audience are then introduced to Hezekiah who is played by Malachi Kirby and Alec who is played by Francis Lovehall, two Jamaican best friends who become entangled in this dangerous world. Their fight for survival in the unforgiving East End of London leads them into a confrontation with Sugar Goodson played by Stephen Graham, a threatening boxer and criminal mastermind.

Alongside compelling writing, powerhouse performances, and a dark, atmospheric tone, A Thousand Blows explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the thirst for power. The series masterfully blends historical events with the personal struggles of its characters, offering a raw and unflinching portrayal of life in a violent and volatile time.The strong response of the first season resulted in a quick renewal for a second season, demonstrating its powerful impact and rapidly growing fanbase.
