Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy traces the extraordinary journey of Kanye West, offering an intimate and comprehensive look into the life of one of the most influential figures in music and culture. The documentary began over two decades ago when Clarence ‘Coodie’ Simmons, a filmmaker from Chicago, met Kanye West. Recognising something special in Ye, Coodie decided to document his rise, capturing the early moments of Kanye’s career. To immerse himself in the project, Coodie moved from Chicago to New York City, where he began filming Kanye’s life in a bid to tell the story of a young rapper striving to make it in the competitive world of hip-hop. At the time, neither of them could have imagined just how far Kanye’s journey would take him.
Spanning over 21 years, Jeen-Yuhs documents Kanye’s transition from a producer with big dreams to an iconic rapper and global superstar. The trilogy highlights the pivotal moments in Kanye’s life and career, from his breakthrough with The College Dropout to the controversies and personal challenges that have shaped his public image. Through never-before-seen footage, personal interviews, and raw glimpses of his creative process, Jeen-Yuhs shows a detailed view of Kanye West, a man who has been both praised and criticised, uncovering the complexities of his character. The documentary highlights Kanye’s strong determination and Coodie’s vision in capturing the journey of a young artist who would go on to change music, fashion, and culture.
